Russia Expands Digital Ruble Use Across Banks and Budget System
Russia has accelerated the integration of its central bank digital currency (CBDC), with government institutions already utilizing the digital ruble for budget transfers and institutional payments. The phased rollout mandates large banks and institutional clients to support digital ruble transactions by September 2026, followed by retail companies with significant revenue by 2027.
The Central Bank of Russia confirms the digital ruble's usage will expand under a structured national plan, aligning with legislative deadlines set in 2023. This MOVE positions Russia among the forefront of nations adopting CBDCs, signaling a strategic shift toward digitized fiscal operations.
